For instance, the story of Mr. Tuan and Ms. Thuan in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City. They once experienced a period of long-distance love and faced strong opposition from their families due to the perception that being a driver lacked stability and was not compatible in terms of both family background and education. However, with Mr. Tuan’s sincere love and Ms. Thuan’s unwavering trust, they held hands tightly, overcoming numerous challenges, and consistently supported each other on the journey to find happiness.

‘Love at first sight’ due to the considerate nature of the male driver
Mr. Le Van Tuan (b.1983) and Ms. Ha Thi Thuan (b.1988), were both raised in the Nghệ An region. At that time, he worked as a driver on the Hanoi-Anh Sơn route, while she was a student at Hanoi Pedagogical University. Every time she had the chance to go, she chose the coach line where he worked. However, they rarely crossed paths until one day when she was sleeping on the coach,, and unexpectedly, they stopped in the town of Yen Thanh, Nghe An Province.
At that moment, she was awakened by a young man’s voice calling out to her, “Wake up, so I can transfer you to another coach. The coach on my side is broken and can’t continue”. She looked up in bewilderment, then silently stood up and moved her belongings to another coach. Before boarding, the young man noticed her money wallet sticking out, and he advised, “Please zip up your bag and take a seat on another coach. Remember to keep your belongings safe”. She didn’t respond, only mustered a faint smile and nodded before turning away. It was the first time she had encountered him, and she simply sensed him as a considerate bus driver towards passengers.
After spending a few days in my hometown, she set out for Hanoi to resume my studies. This time, perhaps by fate’s design, she was seated right behind the driver’s seat, and he was the one at the wheel. Because of sitting in front, every action of his unintentionally fell into her view, and she observed. “He dresses in a youthful and elegant manner and speaks gently, considerately, and attentively to customers. What’s more, he has a cheerful and humorous demeanor, and every time he laughs, it’s truly beautiful. And to top it off, the best part is when he spontaneously opened the exact song that I love. At that moment, everything seemed to captivate me, almost like being struck by a love at first sight”. She smiles as she recalls the memory.
The initial days of getting to know each other both
Since that day, every time she hears the song ‘The Warm Wind Scarf’, beautiful images of him appear in her mind, causing a slightly peculiar feelingHowever, she reminded herself not to misinterpret the situation, so those feelings gradually subsided. Perhaps it was the deliberate hand of fate that orchestrated everything to bring the two of them together. One day, her mother asked her to buy two warm shirts in Hanoi and have them sent to Nghệ An, but she wasn’t sure where to send them. Suddenly, the thought of him crossed her mind, but without his phone number, she asked a friend from the same hometown for the number. In that instant, she felt a deep joy within, intertwined with indescribable emotions.
For him, it started as a mere exchange of messages between a customer and a service provider. However, as they conversed more, he grew fond of her gentle and obedient nature. And the affection naturally developed from there.
Embracing flaws and being willing to change for one another
During the time of getting to know each other, she learned that he was the eldest among four siblings, and his parents were retired officials. Although their family wasn’t wealthy, they lived a disciplined life. He was hardworking and filial, not wanting his parents to struggle, so after graduating from high school, he decided to quit studying and became a driver, hoping to earn money to support his siblings’ education. Therefore, he would do whatever was necessary, without shying away from challenges, as long as it could help his family and foster a harmonious living environment. The more she learned about him, the more she cherished and loved him more.
His journey always includes the footsteps of hers
Despite being in a long-distance relationship, both of them felt reassured about each other because each party was conscious of the necessity of honesty and authenticity. Therefore, they often shared the joys and sorrows of life. However, as their feelings deepened, they also encountered opposition and resistance from her family. Despite this, he wasn’t upset; instead, he consistently maintained respect and understanding for her parents. He confided, “It’s the same for everyone. No parent wants to marry their daughter to someone without a stable career, lacking in every aspect”. In his opinion, “Sometimes, difficulties are also good opportunities for self-reflection and striving”. Furthermore, he valued her feelings and wanted to demonstrate that there are still many kind-hearted individuals in the profession of being a driver. Therefore, he agreed and encouraged her to pursue her Master’s program in Ho Chi Minh City, as per her family’s wishes, while he would complete his teaching certificate to become a driving instructor. This way, they could start their careers together in the south. Thanks to their love and strong motivation, he was able to establish a reputation in the field of training drivers, catering to artists, businessmen, professors and doctors. This opened up many other development opportunities for him.

Throughout their 9-year journey together, they faced numerous challenges. However, they never gave up, and all their efforts were rewarded with a joyous and blessed wedding ceremony, surrounded by the happiness and well-wishes of their loved ones and both sets of parents.

Until now, despite having two children, their love remains as deep as ever. For her, he is a responsible husband and an extremely loving father. Whenever the children need him, he can drop everything to be by their side. One profound realization that she had in their marital relationship, to maintain the warmth of their family, was the importance of valuing and being grateful for even the smallest gestures that they both showered upon each other. And if we consider husband and wife as family, then no matter how great the hurt may be, it is not easy to give up because patience, forgiveness, and tolerance are often present in family bonds. As a renowned author once said,“True patience may be painful, but the rewards are incredibly sweet”.
