In adulthood, surely, many of us have desired and exerted significant effort to achieve some level of success and recognition in our careers. However, not everyone attains the dream results they aspire to. Even those with exceptional professional abilities may face challenges in the business world, experiencing a lack of luck or only achieving moderate success, and in some cases, even encountering losses. So, what are the true reasons that prevent many people from shining and succeeding?
In reality, there are numerous positive factors that contribute to success. However, upon closer examination, it becomes evident that the common root of career setbacks, lack of recognition, or relationship failures often lies in three crucial ‘lack of coping’ factors.
1. Lack of self-confidence in one’s decision-making abilities.
When starting to find their own ideals, everyone is excited and spends a lot of time exploring and focusing on issues that they care about. At the same time, they fully trust their own ability to create unique, high-quality, and influential product values for others. However, after a short period of time, their enthusiasm diminishes as they see results that do not meet their expectations, leading to feelings of boredom and pessimism. From there, they gradually lose confidence in their choices because they feel that they have invested too much effort and money in the ‘investment without receiving the deserved sweet fruit.
However, a truth found in unsuccessful people is that they often doubt their own abilities due to negative ideas, which makes them insecure and inconsistent in their views. Every decision is hesitant, fearful, and easy to change when they feel that those around them do not care or value the values they create or contribute. It is this insecurity that leads them to not believe in themselves, sometimes even not knowing whether the path they are on is right or wrong from the beginning
However, according to some studies, confidence has a close relationship with success. For example, a study at Heriot-Watt University in the UK, conducted in collaboration with Harvey Nash in 2016, surveyed over 1,000 leaders and renowned experts, and the results showed that 70% of highly successful individuals were mostly due to their self-confidence. Therefore, it is important to always remember the saying “All things are difficult before they are easy” to persevere through the process of striving for success. Because certainly, no one can succeed without a strong will.
2. Lack of composure, being impulsive, and prone to making mistakes when facing difficulties
During the pursuit of passion or achieving some level of success, we often encounter numerous challenges and obstacles. Their appearance resembles a test of coping abilities during difficult times, and at times, emotional challenges that disturb our inner peace. If we lack composure and become hot-headed, it can lead to a loss of emotional control, causing fractures in relationships around us. Inadvertently, this disrupts the path to success and happiness, as true fulfillment never comes to those who lack emotional wisdom, despite their courage.
A prominent figure that we can clearly see is Zhang Fei, who was the most valiant general in the history of China. He had enough courage, talent, and strength to face any battle and achieved many glorious victories for the Shu Han kingdom under Liu Bei. However, he was famous for being hot-headed and lacked composure, which caused him to offend many people. In the end, he was tragically killed by a subordinate who could not bear his hot temper and shouting.
Therefore, when we are in control of our emotions wisely, it not only minimizes conflicts but also increases our observation skills and makes it easier to solve any complicated problems. Moreover, it accelerates and shortens the progress of achieving success effectively.
3. Lack of patience due to excessive reliance on results
People often say that “Haste makes waste”, meaning that the more impatient one becomes, the harder it is to achieve great things. Despite knowing that we have gone through many challenges, losses, and even the depths of loneliness and sadness that few can truly understand, waiting impatiently for quick results only puts pressure on ourselves, leading to disappointment, loss of determination, and a lack of desire to continue if expectations are not met.
This further demonstrates a lack of patience, which can make one feel weary, discouraged, and tempted to give up. At times, we may deny others’ achievements because we fail to see the effort and dedication they have invested. Meanwhile, we forget the truth of success, which is based on determination, perseverance, and continuous efforts that will ultimately reward us with commensurate values.
The quote from former President Donald Trump is: “It only took me 15 minutes to buy a house, but I had to wait 15 years to afford it. So, never give up, be patient, and work hard”.
