Practice changing negative thoughts into optimism

Regardless of the era, humans commonly face similar issues such as work pressure, financial concerns, relationships, family, and society. Especially when life doesn’t go as planned, their emotional state can easily give rise to negative and pessimistic thoughts. This is particularly challenging for individuals who hold high self-esteem, as they find it difficult to accept being belittled, offended, or unappreciated. So how can one shift the energy from negative to positive thinking?

According to medical experts, many doctors have advised patients to maintain an optimistic outlook as this has a positive impact on the immune system, resistance to protect health, and aids in the smooth progress of treatment. Simultaneously, they urge everyone to avoid negative thinking, including Dr. Rick Hanson asserts that negative emotions are very dangerous. Furthermore, it’s cautioned that this syndrome can easily spread, severely affecting one’s mental well-being, weakening emotional bonds, reducing work efficiency, hindering the path to success, and potentially impairing the ability to connect with those around us.

Therefore, developing a healthy, positive mindset not only helps individuals avoid stress, anxiety, and illnesses but also enhances awareness and teaches how to remain calm to overcome all difficulties and challenges, aiming towards a joyful and prosperous future. So, to attain happiness, we must promptly eliminate any existing negative thoughts from our minds through the following practical steps.

1. Acknowledge being poisoned and seek ways to ‘detoxify’ oneself from them.

When we realize that we are feeling frustrated, jealous, sad, or uncomfortable, it means that negative energy has infiltrated and accumulated within us. These negative emotions manifest at various levels of intensity, but all of them darken the human mind, making it weary and disheartened. In particular, anger often brings about chest pain, rapid breathing, and a confused mind. In such situations, we need to confront and rescue ourselves by focusing on our breath and urgently acknowledging, “I have been poisoned,” while continuously saying, “I desperately need help.” This is a method of self-healing through sensory self-stimulation, which encourages oneself through the five senses. This process is known as self-hypnosis or self-contemplation. During this time, the mind is stimulated, and the internal positive energy connects with the external universal energy through the law of attraction, which can interrupt the stream of thoughts. Simultaneously, strive to ‘expel’ the accumulating negative energy within your chest, swiftly pushing it outwards to alleviate the impending burst of anger.

One of the most commonly used methods of expelling gas is ‘steam inhalation.’ This method can be performed while standing, lying down, sitting up straight, or even with your head tilted upwards. To do it, open your mouth wide and take a deep breath, exhaling slowly for about 15 seconds, adjusting the duration based on each individual’s lung capacity. Alternatively, if in a secluded space, one can shout loudly to release pent-up anger. This immediately restores emotional balance and leaves one feeling lighter after ‘detoxification.’ If left unaddressed, prolonged chest tightness can lead to cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, and pulmonary edema, and is associated with coronary artery disease, aortic dissection, stroke, and cancer. Therefore, whenever there are signs of unexplained chest pain upon pressing, it is advisable to promptly consult a physician for a medical examination.

On the other hand, if emotionally wounded or overwhelmingly sad, it’s important not to suppress our feelings. Instead, find a private space where you can cry. In the field of medicine, crying is also considered a natural method to release emotions and effectively reduce stress and tension

2. Seek reasons to embrace the imperfections of others to nurture the soul

To carry out this step, it is important to understand that no one is perfect to carry out this step. Each person has their own unique strengths and weaknesses compared to ourselves. These differences often stem from habits and personality traits shaped by individual levels of awareness and personal perspectives. Even siblings growing up in the same educational environment can develop different ways of thinking and lifestyles as they mature. This not only helps us easily accept the imperfections of others but also demonstrates a culture of politeness and respect for others.

However, in some complex cases such as feeling offended, experiencing love-related distress, facing challenges with children or work, or getting angry at ungrateful individuals, to find a valid reason that allows us to forgive and transform negative energy into positive energy, we may need to further introspect and ask ourselves questions like:

  1. Have I acted correctly?
  2. Have my words and demeanor been gentle with them?
  3. Were they genuinely happy with what I did, or was it something I wanted for myself?
  4. Why are they being distant, unappreciative, or unwilling to listen? Could there be a reason I’m unaware of?
  5. Is it true that I’m not calculating benefits, not demanding emotional entitlement, or seeking recognition from anyone?
  6. If I remain upset and angry, what will I lose within myself?
  7. What do I gain by responding to their anger with anger?
  8. What lesson do I learn from this situation?
  9. Do I know what my child needs right now? Have I ever listened and asked my child about any past pains or hurts they’ve experienced?
  10. Where did I go wrong, what skills did I fail at, and how can I develop them?

Depending on the circumstances, asking and answering these questions is like untangling the knots within. Moreover, the introspective method serves to heal emotional wounds and allows us to look within ourselves.

Furthermore, nurturing the soul also contributes to an additional source of positive energy through practices such as meditation, relaxation, exercise, yoga, consuming positive content, reading books, connecting with nature, and learning to appreciate the efforts of others. All of these activities refresh the mind profoundly, simultaneously altering one’s mood positively and transforming the spirit into optimism

3. Applying the practice of positive energy in personal life

In reality, many successful and happy individuals owe much of their well-being to positive thinking. They deeply understand that ‘no one can save them but themselves,’ as relying on moods, and the attitudes of others, or setting overly high self-limitations can inadvertently lead to suffering and distress. Therefore, they often simplify their thoughts, remove harmful negativity from their minds, practice gratitude and forgiveness regularly to raise their vibrational frequency. Thanks to this, they attract a great source of energy that makes everything flow smoothly and brings good luck.

For example, in the case of Ms. Bao Thy, who currently resides in the United States, she shared, “There was a time in my life when I dwelled on negative thoughts due to various hardships I had experienced. Consequently, it seemed like my life only attracted unfortunate events. Then, one day, I met a friend who guided me in practicing gratitude and forgiveness. I applied these principles to my life to transform the positive energy within me. Since then, I no longer felt sadness or anger, and I even faced challenges with a positive outlook. As a result, things gradually improved, and settling in the United States was indeed a surprise, beyond my expectations.”
